PostHeaderIcon Walls Braced

Basement walls that have moved in less than 3.5 inches can be braced by installing vertical steel beams against the wall and properly anchored to the floor joists above and basement floor below.

Walls that have moved in more than 3.5 inches generally should be straightened (Walls Straightened) and then braced.

We do not usually recommend tie backs or earth anchors due to generally unstable and expansive soils in this area.  Of course, do not forget that poor or negative drainage causes this problem (symptom) so the cause most always needs to be addressed at the same time as the symptom, IE; new gutters, downspouts diverted, re-grading, etc.
